hi everyone,
it feels like having new friends writing to you. Went to the EP today. It was the first time I saw him after I collapsed and got the second PM 3 weeks ago. the EP and another cardiologist did the testing and "tweaked" the PM. I am pacing 61% in the atrium and 100% in the ventricle. I told them about the "hell" I went trough and want to start a "normal" life. Ask for the report of the implantation and what the surgeon found out about the damaged leads when he removed the first PM and installed a new "box" and leads. Had no reports yet.!!!! Now I am set at 80 and 130. this should eliminate the "thumping" and symptons. He wants to see how this will affect me.
When they did the tests I felt like a monkey in the cage because I was "an interesting case". my husband says: an interesting case??? it's her life you are looking after. more people came to look at the results and they tried different things. I had enough and said: please can you come to a conclusion. over 1 1/2 hours we were there. EP says: the generator and leads are working 100%. I said you mentioned this the last time and look what happened. Anyway, I try to put confidence in this new PM and hope all will work out. Thanks for your support and kind sugggestions. I feel better and I was not soooo bad to speak up and be objective and calm.
have a good day,
veronika

100% ventricular pacing
by golden_snitch - 2011-01-20 02:01:41
Hi,
wondering why you are pacing 100% in the ventricles. Do you have complete, permanent 3rd degree heart block or did you pass out from time to time? Most patients who got their pacemaker because of passing out occasionally don't need so much pacing. But most doctors do not tweek the pacer's setting to reduce the amount of ventricular pacing (for example by prolonging the AV-delay) although it is very important to pace as little as possible in the ventricles.
The "thumping" could be a result of ventricular pacing when it's not needed. Happens that the pacer stimulates at the same time when the ventricles beat on their own.
Good luck with your new pm!

this is my understanding

hi inga, my understanding is: I had an AV node ablation a week after the implant and therefore I need the 100% pacing in the ventricle. . the EP did some adjustment today and wants to see if this "programme" is suitable for me. does this make sense to you?
I had the whole lot: bradycardia, sometimes tachycardia, afib. I am so symptomatic that he tore his hair out today. he tried different settings and hopefully this will work. it will work with the new pacer and pacing!! they want to do an echo after a few months, but the EP wants to do one thing at a time.
thanks for your concern and good wishes.

ok

hi veronika,
ok, if you've the av-node ablation, then that's of course the reason why you are pacing 100% in the ventricles, and in that case it's necessary to be paced that much. just didn't know that part of the story.
best wishes
inga

Yesterday I moved to a new place in my mind and realized how bad I felt 'before' and the difference my pacemaker has made.
You did it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good for you Veronika. I was thinking about you a few times today.
So now that they have you at 80 & 130, did they say if and when to come back to let them know how you feel?
I can see why they put your lower setting at 80, but I don't understand why your higher setting is at 130...that seems a tiny bit low to me....but I am not a doctor. I suppose 130 is fine if you're like me and don't do much activities.
Good luck with your new settings and I'm so proud of you for speaking up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs,
Pookie
