Am I being paranoid?

I am 22 and had my PM fitted mid December and have been back a few times to have the settings altered. Now the past few days I have noticed I can now feel a wire that I could before. It is above the scar and I seem to be able to feel the tip of the wire (not that I’ve been prodding it too much) I only noticed it was out when I lifted my arm and felt a sharp pain were the wire was rubbing on the skin. I don’t know whether I’m being paranoid and you are meant to feel the wires, perhaps it is because the swelling is going down so I can feel more but I’m sure I can feel the tip loose. I told my doctor over the phone and she thinks it’ll be ok to wait until my check up in 2 weeks and it seems a long time and quite dangerous if it isn’t connected and not working for 2 weeks if I flatline again? Can anyone help please?

A wire that I couldn't feel before rather!

I had my implant done on 12/11/2007. After the surgery I thought I felt a wire in my incision. After a couple of weeks the feeling went away. I'm sure you will be fine.

No! Look, you're in your 20's. This thing that is parasitic in your body will give you some stress. I've had a PM since 2003; had a lead replaced in 2007 & a new one planted last Aug. I STILL feel my leads. If you are skinny w/o a generous layer of subcutaneous fat, you'll feel the leads forever. BTW: I'm nearly 75 - old enough to be your GF!

You are entitled to ask about it & be concerned. Politely push for an appt sooner than 2 1/2 weeks. If the Dr. or a PA or nurse looks at it, they can very quickly tell you if something has gone astray.

To tell someone that they "...think they can safely wait" is not very good medicine.

Skinny too

I'm classed as young by the doctors and I'm slim build. I've been told by the doctors that people of my size and good fittness are more likely to feel the pacemaker in some way. My PM was only fitted 5 months ago, and I'm still having discomfort, but have already started getting out in the mountains etc. Hang on in there, all will be OK in the end.
