Good Afternoon to everyone......greetings from the frozen tundra here in NE Ohio....brrrrrrrr. I have a question in reference to my PM. I had it "installed" on 16 Nov 2010, dual lead for Bradycardia (SSS) I go for my initial 90 day check up next month and was just wondering if something wasn't right would I have known by now? i.e..leads are implanted good? PM doing what it is designed to do....etc...etc. I really dont know what to expect other than it keeps my HR from dropping. I feel just like before I had the PM implanted, no sudden burst of energy or any of that, just normal, no real changes. So I was just wondering if anyone could provide any insight to my situation. thanks for reading...

Reason for checkup

Even if your pacer is working great for you, a checkup may allow them to may some changes that will increase the battery life. Just be sure you feel OK when they finish. On my early checkups I did a brisk walk around the building just to see how I felt. In one instance I went back and had more changes made.
As for bursts in energy I agree with Smitty. In my case I did experience a dramatic change, but my HR had dropped down to 30. A sudden increase to a more normal 75 or so felt great.

Today I explained everything to my doctor, he set my lower rate back to 80 and I felt an immediate improvement.
First Checkup

Hello Sarge,
If something with your PM was way off course you probably would have known it by now. The fact that you don't notice anything unusual is a good sign that you are one of the fortunate ones that got good settings the first try. Those first settings are really the Dr best guess, based on what he knows about your needs. Too often those settings are the best for some. That doesn't mean no changes will be made in the your settings as some tweaking is always possible. However, you should still not notice anything different with things being as good as you say.
As for the sudden burst of energy, I think that is more myth than fact. The person that truly does see that "sudden burst" probably has a heart that was in great need for the help a pacemaker can provide.
So, my suggestion to you is be sure that whoever does your checkup knows you are very satisfied with what you have now. Also, I think it is very important that you get a copy of the checkup printout. Most of these will show what if any changes are made. While, you may be like me and not know what those changes mean, if you don't feel as well afterward, which can take a couple of weeks, you will have a reference point to show the Dr and say I felt so and so with these settings.
Good luck,
Smitty
