Rowing machine?

I got my PM almost 2 yrs ago (12/20/10). My electrophisiologist who implanted the device recommends strongly that I do not use my rowing machine. He's afraid the leads will unset. Is that a reasonable position, or is he being overly cautious?

Just my opinion, but unless there's something unusual about your placement, that's overkill once you've had time to heal. I row all the time, either on a rower or kayak/canoe.

After the first few weeks, the leads are grown into the heart well, they're not going anywhere on that end. The other end where they attach to the pm, there is usually an extra length of lead that is coiled and put behind the device so you're not going to stress on it there either. Sounds to me more like cya than sound advice.

There are a lot of exercises that many of us here do regularly that put a lot more stress on the leads than rowing. My dr is more liberal than most, but I'm allowed to do anything I want- barbells, running, rowing, pull ups. I'm on my 4th pm now, have never held back, and have never had a complication.

I took a Jeep Cherokee broadside into the van I was riding in. He was doing 35 mph at impact. Most of my right ribs cracked; broken right collarbone, collapsed lung, lacerated liver, bruised kidney, developed an aortic aneurysm, suspected broken neck, suspected concussion.

My lead had been replaced a mere 10 weeks previous.

No damage to lead at all. Never moved.

Those leads are IN THERE by then. THAT IS - IF they were implanted adequately to begin with.

I've had a pacemaker since 1978 and exercise 2 to 4 times a week. In fact, I used a row machince on Friday with no problems. Erercise in within one's abilities is healthy.

Hi! 59 year old female going on 25 (sounds like a lonely heart ad) lol. I use pretty much all the equipment in the gym, including the rowing machine. The only ones I'm careful with are the ones you pull down on, I always stand up when finishing the routine so that I dont jarr my arms up to hard (am only little) lol.

I say do whatever you like just act with caution at first!

Rowing - concept 2.

I am scheduled for a PM in the New Year. I am a regular user of the Concept 2 Rower - generally undertaking 10 km per session.

Can any one advise if I will still be able to do this given the repetitious nature of rowing on the arms?

Thanks
