i have had my pacemaker just over a year now. my heart rate was in the mid 30's......so i felt better in the recovery room
my question is......i had my pacer (st. jude) checked today and noticed the spare battery i have in my kit. when do i know to change it?
i have a leaky heart valve, but no other heart problems. i'm a 65 year old female.

Don is right on. The batteries are sealed inside the pacer, which is implanted inside your chest. Even if the battery was replaceable you would need a scalpel and some stitching thread to get at it.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
Spare Batteries?

Priscilla: Don't understand your question - we don't get a spare battery w/ the PM - The PM battery is built into the device. They have to surgically replace the entire PM to replace the battery. The PM monitors the battery life & gives plenty of warning about when to relace it. Usual life is 8-10 yrs.
Do you have some acessory w/ your PM that could take a replacent battery? I promise you - it's NOT your PM!
Glad you are happy w/your little bionic buddy.
