new patient and first check up

Hi all, I am new here.Let start from the begining. My heart rate was slowly going down over the years.Year ago my heart rate was in low 40's.Three months ago I start feeling very weak, tired all day.My heart rate was in low 30's.They did EPS study and everything was normal. No delay in heart,no block etc.Five weeks ago I receive medtronic adapta dual pacemaker.

My pacemaker originally was set at 70 with medium/low setting on sensor. At rest I had 70 but when I make few steps or just walk from one room to another room my heart go up to 90-100.I work in wood shop so it's heavy job.At work my heart was all the time at around 90-100.When slow walking for 15 minutes my heart go up to 103 max.I feel good. I think that my pacemaker is to sensitive when I start moving around.

I talk to my doctor about that and he say that I may need some adjustments (lowering).

Yesterday I go to my doctor office and technician (not doctor) make some adjustments.I look at the screen when he make adjustments.First he lower my heart rate to 60.After that he make adjust on sensor, from medium/low to medium/high so my pacemaker will NOT be very sensitive for excersize. Also he turned OFF something on main screen but I did not understand what was it because my englishh in poor.He say something about pacing but I did not understand.Anyone know what this was?

Now at rest my heart is 60,when I start moving around my pulse is in low 70's.Today at work my heart rate was in mid 70's.I felt OK except small problems.

Now the problems. After these changes I felt small and short palpitations.I had this today maybe 3 or 4 times. Each time they last for few second. It feels like my heart jumping for 5 seconds and go away.I did not have these symptoms before adjustments.

What You think guys.Anyone know what the problem is or what changes may cause this symptoms? I just want wait few more days before calling to doctor office.

When most people get their first pacemaker it comes with what they call default settings....then after 2-4 months you go in to see your doctor (as you did) and they will make some adjustments to your pacer, as they did today.

Just keep in mind that it may take several appointments to get your pacemaker settings where they are good for you.

And, if possible, the next time you have your pacemaker checked, please ask them for the print out (or report) on what they did to your settings and there are some members here who can explain to you what has been done.

70 was kind of high (but some people like it at 70) but 60 is usually the most common low setting. Find out what your high setting is!!!!!!!!

If you still feel what you described in a few days, please call them back and ask to be seen again.

If it continues, ask them if you can wear a Holter Monitor.

Again, welcome and please keep asking questions and reading through some of the posts because it is most likely here you will find some of the answers you are looking for unless you have a very good doctor who takes the time to explain everything to you.

Keep us posted on how you are doing...ok?

Take care,
Pookie

I call the office and I will get full report. The nurse say that my numbers are 60-90-150.Before was 70-105-150.Can You tell me what these numbers mean?I know that first number is the minimum rate.
