Incision Itches

Pacemaker installed December 8, 2010. Healing was quick. Three months later the incision is itching quite a bit, something I might have expected earlier. I mentioned it to my cardiologist a week ago while in for adjusting the pacemaker; he's not concerned and doesn't really express interest. I use handcream to cut the itching. Does anyone have ideas for something else to use to reduce itching? Anyone else had the experience?

Itching

Hi there...I sometimes use Cortaid or Cortisone cream. I have had my pacemaker almost two years now, and I still have itching on my incision from time to time. I know it sounds odd so long after surgery, but it happens! Good luck!

scratch- not joking

I get it occasionally. A very gentle scratch seems to stop it for me for days. You don't want to irritate the skin by really going after it. I also use a cream that I get online, that I use for dry skin on feet or hands, and irritations of all kinds-

I hate to post this here because we're connected to the company and I don't want to violate any rules, but we find this a useful cream. My sincere apologies if this isn't cool.

Try Benzocaine

I use an over the counter product by the name of Lanacane for the itching I have with my last pacemaker. For more than 20 years I have also found Lanacane to be very good to stop the itching of bug bites.

Of course before using take a look at the ingredients Benzocaine and Benzethonium Chloride to see if you may be sensitive to them.

A couple of suggestions

There are two gels I've found effective.

For just plain itching I like Sting Stop. It's meant for insect bites, but works good on most any itch.

If the itchy area has any open spots I use Triflora Arthritis Gel. I also found it good in the early days when the incision was still fresh.

Both of these are available at most health food stores. I don't use them because they are "Natural". I just found that they work.

By the way don't ever get a mosquito bite on the thin skin over a pacer.

I have the itching every now and then and have found that E45 Itch relief cream is great. I,m not sure if it,s available in the US.

Scar cream

I got mine at end of November and have been putting scarzone cream on it for a couple months now to minimize the scar. I find that rubbing the scar cream into it kind of provides some itch relief.

You, too?

I thought I was all by myself, but thanks to these posts I know now this isn't uncommon. My scar really really itches at times, and it's been almost three years since the operation. Guess it's not going away.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
