I just went in for my 7 month check up on my PM. $ moths ago, It was being used only 13% of the time. Now its being used 62% of time. He did change the amount of time to allow my heart to beat on its own. For over 2 months I havent felt good, tired, sick, chest sorness. My primary gave me cough surup and antibotic for a sinus infection 1 1/2 months ago and last week he gaveme pain killers and a musclerelaxer for a strain muscle on my 4th rib. I keep telling these doctors I am so tired, yawning all the time and now my BP has been dropping. These were all things that were going on right before I had to have the pacemaker. With the PM being used more cause me to feel not good? Can that be why I am not feeling well? I have asked my primary twice to check my pottassium as low pottassium landed me in er/ hospital on and off for 2 years leading up to the PM and he still wont.

All but maybe 2 of those Symptoms is what I have been feeling. The last time (before I got pm) it was so low that i was taken off a school bus paralized, a kid actually had to pull the parking brake and call 911 as I couldn't. After being amitted I was told it was at 1.4 and that most go into a coma at that level. So I did get my doctor to order a blood test to check the basics along with the potassium level. Thank you again

Pain killers and muscle relaxants are both energy killers. I went through several weeks of back pain back in the 80's before surgery. I gave up on both types of meds. Being wiped out all the time was worse than the pain.

Not the meds

This started before the painmeds or muscle relaxers and I also have been on both before.

you and your body type may be having side affects of some of the medications you are taking. everyone is different and ahve different weightsi was taking ambien and xanax as an easy fix when having symptoms of insomnia and anxiety.i finally was told by the EP/MD that my fatique and sleeping 12-14 hours a day, sob and depression was not the pacer and "i should not to be fixating on the pm".t was so defeated after having had so many appts with cardiology and boston scientific tech, waiting for a miracle. i had no other avenue but to meds by the horns and looked everyone up .
ask your pharmacist for the drug bottle literature or use a good pharmacy internet site.. ( these are the sites which define every effect and affect in length).
with the ok from doctors i tapered off the ambien and xanax. i had a tough time ( literature states withdrawal is similar to cocaine) i and withdrew and in 1-2 months i had no more symptoms ,, e.g., heart arrythmias, sob, doom and gloom and serious fatigue.
how about that?.
and the EP was right it was not the pacer but he did not acknowledge in any way that my recovery (totally) had everything to with those very addicting medications.i fee great, hardly notice now that i have a pm.
i am now in the process of full mouth dental repair work and everything is great (biggest chicken ever) and new glasses will be isoon as the deleted meds also caused poor visiom and photosensitvity (all gone) my intense sense of smell is gone too.(how many times can you scrub the counter tops?
i am a winner( it took a long time). thank God and i believe you can get there too.xjanx

Problems

Hello,
I'll answer two of your questions: "With the PM being used more cause me to feel not good?" "Can that be why I am not feeling well?" The answer is no to both. It should be just the opposite. Your pacemaker is an on demand device and it will help the heart only when needed, provided your pacemaker settings are what you need. A pacemaker is a double edge sword. It can be your best friend if adjusted correctly and your worst enemy when not adjusted correctly for you.
Now please do take that to mean as I think your pacemaker is not adjusted best for you. I have no way of knowing that. It takes a doctor and the instruments used for a pacemaker checkup to determine that.
I have had to take a potassium supplement for 20+ years and when mine is low muscle cramps are a real problem. As for low potassium being a contributor to your problems, take a look below. Do any of these symptoms fit you?
Low Potassium Symptoms
Usually symptoms of low potassium are mild. At times they can be vague. You may have more than one symptom involving the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, kidneys, muscles, heart, and nerves.
Weakness, tiredness, or cramping in arm or leg muscles, sometimes severe enough to cause inability to move arms or legs due to weakness (much like a paralysis)
Tingling or numbness
Nausea or vomiting
Abdominal cramping, bloating
Constipation
Palpitations (feeling your heart beat irregularly)
Passing large amounts of urine or feeling very thirsty most of the time
Fainting due to low blood pressure
Abnormal psychological behavior: depression, psychosis, delirium, confusion, or hallucinations.
If you are having symptoms of low potassium, call your doctor. Without symptoms, you will not know you have low potassium levels until you have a routine blood test or an electrocardiogram (ECG, EKG).
Good luck to you,
Smitty
