Bowflex treadclimbers

Hello everyone:
I haven't posted in a long, long time, but I read this site frequently. And now I have a question. I know there are no stupid questions on this site, and I'm hoping I'm not asking the first one:)
I have an ICD, and I was looking at purchasing a Bowflex Treadclimber. I noticed that there is a heart rate monitor built into the handle bars. But I was remembering some time ago reading that we PM and ICD users should not use those wristwatch heart monitors or chest heart rate monitors they have on exercise machines now. I might be confused by what I read. (That happens frequently.) But before I shell out a lot of money, I wanted to know if anyone has purchased one of these or has used a wristwatch or chest heart rate monitor, and if so, are they safe. Thanks for your feedback.

You should be just fine, I have had an ICD for 15 years, and have used treadmills, bikes, and used the hand held heart rate monitors,, you can always call the manufacturer and ask that question, to put your mind at rest, they will certainly answer you,,,, you made a great choice, hope to get to proceed forward.. good luck,,,,

Hi Cheryl,

About a month ago I purchased a recumbent exercise bike that has a heart rate monitor built into the hand grips. I have not had any trouble with it interfering with my pacemaker. It seems fairly accurate. It also came with the chest strap monitor, but I have not yet used it. I think it is fine, but hopefully other members respond as well.

Good luck!

I use machines with built in HRM at the gym. I also use a Polar strap type with it.....no problems.

Like mrclean said (lol), call your device company to ease your mind.

There is a discussion about HRM about 5 threads down from here.

Happy exercising.

I knew if I asked pacemaker club people, I'd get a quick and accurarte response. Thanks for the help. I quit smoking about four years ago, when I found out my heart wasn't what I thought it was, gained 20 pounds, and need to start feeling like me again.
Thanks again.
