My doctor said the same thing about the showers except told me to leave the dressing alone until my appointment and let him take it off. As long as the incision doesnt get wet, you will be fine.

It depends on how the incision is closed. I had tape this last time and was told to keep it dry for 3 days.
My Approach

I taped a piece of plastic wrap over the bandage to make sure I didn't get things wet, and then both showered and used my hot tub from the first night on. I didn't let the area get below water level and kept the direct shower spray off the area as well.
By the way I took the plastic off after each time. The bandage needs to be able to breath.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
Showers

My stitches were internally done. I put a waterproof dressing over the wound and showered as normal. Changed dressing every couple of days until healed. Surgeon recommended this. Don't lift arm over head though as advised.
