Here's my draft of an email. I could use some independent critique, cause this has finally driven me crazy. Any suggestions about how to phrase this in a seemingly sane manner?
Subject: Your standards of medical care and mine!
Our visits over the past 1.5 years entail you playing with the pacemaker control unit. Then you say something cryptic like "you probably won't feel this" and you leave the room.
Sir, you have learned only about 60% of your medical preactice. For example, "What might I feel?" "What should I do if?"
Frankly, I feel "splash-back". The pacemaker is programmed to pump from both lower chambers simultaneously. But the descending aorta can't handle it. And I get a hiccup effect on the back splash. It doesn't take a cardiologist to tell you that the set up is flawed. Any plumber can explain this, and probably suggest the possibility of harm.
You never talk about my settings? Geez dude! Time to enter the 20th century of medical practice.
I discovered that my St. Jude's output data has weekly summaries of exercise information. Obviously, this kind of data is a massive contribution to my self care. Frankly, my self-care is now the main game here. I asked for a sample copy and I get no response. Wake up dude, withholding of medical info from the patient, as done over the past 1.5 years, is massively unethical.
Both you and your nursing person need to start dealing with patient care. If you can't handle that, recommend me an alternative.

You may not want to take his recomendation for a new doctor, if they are friends the next guy may be as bad as him. I would strike out on my own to look elsewhere and let the new doctor know why you left the old doctor up front and ask him if he could do better or should you just go somewhere else.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.

I hope that writing the e-mail got out some of your frustrations. I would just look for a new EP in your area. I would not send the e-mail to him if you plan to stay with this doctor. If you want to let him know about his shortcomings with patient care, you should write something firm, but less confrontational. If you decide to go with another doctor, I would let him know about the poor service that he provided, and that you will be using a new doctor.
