Car Air Bag Question (Electronic)

The light came on saying "Service Air Bag" and when the garage did a check their explanation in part reads: "Stored hist. clear codes as per #08-09-41-007D. Most likely due to a electronic device placed on the pass front seat." I am the only driver of the vehicle and I have a St. Jude PM. Nothing that I can think of has been placed on the front seat. Does anyone know if a Pacemaker could be the culprit? Curiouser and curiouser. Thanks for any input.......

Airbag Deploys

Airbags are designed to deploy in frontal and near-frontal collisions more severe than a threshold defined by the regulations governing vehicle construction in whatever particular market the vehicle is intended for.

There are three parts to an air bag. First, there is the bag itself, which is made of thin, nylon fabric and folded into the steering wheel or the dash board. Then there is the sensor that tells the bag to inflate. It detects a collision force equal to running into a brick wall at 10 to 15 miles per hour (16 to 24 kph).

No electronic device like a pacemaker or any other electronic device will cause them to deploy. That is unless it is big enough to cause deployment when you run into to at a high enough speed.

The next time that service light comes on just stop and shut down the engine and see if that will; solve the problem. That is what I have to do when the light saying "service stability control unit" (whatever that is) comes on. You might check airbags in the operators manual that came with the vehicle.

My guess is the person that did the checking and told you that was previously a pacemaker checkup technician.

If a pm could kill an airbag sensor, you'd hear a lot more of us with problems. And if airbags were that easily disabled, they would be useless because there are thousands of pacemakers out there.

Ha Ha Very Good. Well, as my Dad used to tell me, if you hear a funny sound from the car, turn the radio volumn higher!! Smitty: How did you know that my other repair was the esc service? I think that they saw me coming..... And TracyE your comment is so logical maybe you could go into partnership with Smitty Repairs.
