Recovery Still?

So I had surgery for a PM in June 2010. My first PM. You all have welcomed me with open arms and offered up great advice with some of my physical and personal issues. I appreciate it more than you could imagine. It's hard to talk to somebody who doesn't know what you are going through. As much as they try to support you, its just not the same as talking to somebody who has a PM.

With that being said, as I mentioned, my PM surgery was 6/2/10 and I am actually coping much better now with the visual appearence of it which was hard for me at first. I am on the slim side and there is NO hiding the fact I have a PM. But my concern today is, I have been to my Doc several times for checkups since then. She was a bit concerned the last couple times due to the PM turning freely in the pocket and not having the scar tissue hardened around it. It spins around and around in there and she was worried the leads will eventually be pulled out. But the last check up (just 2 weeks ago) she said it was in the same spot as when she checked last and she just wanted to follow up every couple months. Since that visit, I find myself waking up in the middle of the night with extreme stiffness and pain over and around the PM. No matter what side I have been laying on or on my back, it is so sore I actually grimace in pain when I try to move my left arm or turn to a new position in bed. Then during the day, while sitting at my computer at work, it happens again. Very stiff and sore. Almost like a torn muscle or a muscle i haven't worked out in a really long time. No change in daily activities that I can think of. Nothing strenuous. Then in just the last couple days, I will get the same stiffness and soreness accompanied with muscle CONTRACTIONS and the occasional "electrical jolt" that gives my entire body visual goose pimples. My PM doesn't VFIB by the way. Just a plain ol PM. Does anybody know what this means. I am sure I could call my Doc and relay a message, wait for her to call me back and have her tell me this is normal. But is it really? Has anybody else experienced these symptoms? Do they last forever? Why do I feel like this? Even now as I type this, the site and left side of my chest becomes tight and sore. Like I am lifting weights or something. Please help with some sort of clarification. Thanks friends.

call

I'd call and ask to have her look at it, the jolt could be a lead come loose. Hopefully it's nothing and goes away soon but always better to call and have them say it's nothing than miss it when it's something. Good luck!

First off I agree with TracyE, never hurts to be checked out...But I would like to share that after my LCD implant, The area in and around my new device was tender and sore for quite some time....but with time the discomfort faded away...its been over a year now and I hardly notice it.I hope your feeling better soon....Steven

I'm glad I am not alone! I had my pm put in in July, and I felt great for a while, then one night (over a month ago)I started having these weird palpitations when I was lying on my left side-when I got up, I noticed my pm seemed to be positioned differently (even my husband noticed it). I went to the doc, had an x-ray, ekg, etc. and they said it was fine, just probably some swelling went down from the surgery, but I still don't buy it. It seems feels weird, I've been having pain again (when it was almost gone before-I'm taking Ibuprofen twice a day). I think it turned b/c it doesn't feel the same. I get the electrical or jolting sensations also. When I check my BP, my HR is 70, which is my programmed minimum, but eversince that happened, I have not felt right-I almost feel like I did before I got the pm. But then I think if a lead were not in place, why would my HR read 70? Glad we are not alone ;)

I have only had my pm since Sept 23 and until last nite I felt nothing except some flutters which the doc said was just the pm pacing when my rate dropped. But last night in just one spot I kept feeling sharp, tingling jabs. It happened rather consistently for several minutes. I felt the jabs on my right side of my chest but closest to the middle. Just didn't know if it was nerve endings or the actual pm. No pain tho and my pm seems to be in the original spot. So different in that way.
I wake up so refreshed but kinda tire out midday. Hope that I get more energy as time goes by. I know it has not been that long ago since surgery. I am in agreement with the others...I would insist my doctor take time to talk to me(if that is possible). I have yet to talk to mine even before the surgery....the nurse told me about the pm. Ha
