Hey guys, I had my pacemaker implanted on 4/13/10, so I am new to all of this. I just went for another doctor's visit today because I keep feeling "pacing". Well, the "pacing" is pacing, but my diaphragm nerve is what is picking up the impulses of my pacemaker and making my diaphragm jump. The doctor set the pacemaker to 1.3 and told me that if I start feeling it again, we will have to go back in and reposition the wires. Has anyone ever had to do this? If so, how long was the procedure, did you have to stay overnight, etc - my doc explained a lot to me, and I like him because of that, but I definately always forget to ask the simple questions. Thanks for the feedback! :)

repositioning

Hi Meg! I received my PM Dec 2008. I had that same feeling (but my lead had shifted) right after the first procedure. They went in exactly 24 hours after the initial procedure and moved the lower lead.
The procedure was pretty much the same as the first one. Mine were each scheduled late afternoon so that afterwards I would stay lying down overnight and get up and leave in the morning. Of course I had to stay that extra day for the repositioning of the lead but the next morning I was out.
I know what you mean of forgetting to ask simple questions - I even write them down and bring them sometimes and still I forget them! Its been over a year and I am still learning about this whole thing!
Good Luck! You will feel much better after it is moved.
thanks!

Thanks! As of right now, I am still feeling a little bit of the diaphragm jumping, so I am pretty sure I will have to have it repositioned. Oh well, at least it's all being done now - although my incision is pretty much healed! Oh well, not a big deal, just gotta wait till after college graduation mid May!! :)

I had the same problem as Rubies61 as far as one of the leads moving. I had the second surgery the next day which resulted in an extra day in the hospital.
2 1/2 months later I had a third surgery because of pain issues on how it was stitched. For that one, I was not required to stay over night because they did not move the leads in the heart. The surgery did take two hours however. The surgery was in mid March and I am doing much better now and am glad that I had it done.
Good luck to you.

It will be a much simpler version of your first surgery. They will go in the same place and just move the wire, guided by xray. They may keep you overnight or let you go home that day, drs vary. Good luck!
