Got my new pacer and lead on Thursday!

Hi to All,

I hope this positive post gives encouragement to those anticipating a new pacemaker or similar procedure.

My pacer tripped 5 days after my last appointment in August, and as I was in the middle of my board exams - my cardiologist and I had agreed to delay my next appointment.

Well, a week ago at that said appointment everyone panicked and next thing I knew I was in the OR.

For some of you who know me, my story has been eventful, stressful and accounted for more than one move on my part.

I can honestly say that everything in my new city of Toronto is going excellent.

I opted to be froze and lightly gassed to be coherent during the procedure - and this was really a great experience. The surgeon is a rockstar of sorts and made everything amazing - words seem meaningless at this point. He answered my questions and explained things which gives you a real insight into what is going on.

I was in and out of there in 1 hour. My previous surgeries have all been 5+ hours...

Not having general anaesthesia was huge. I was up and walking in my room 30 minutes after surgery.

As part of my final project, I developed a pre and post surgery nutrition and exercise plan. I know this has made a huge impact on things so far and will continue to do so.

I encourage everyone to ensure you have the best team around you prior to surgery - if you are not able to have your doctors look you in the eye and communicate to you as an equal - then consider to get another opinion.

I would not wish anyone to go through what I have but at least my journey has taken me to something very positive.

All the best!

Cat.

Next time take it one step further and forget the gas.

There really isn't much reason for it as long as the incision area is numbed appropriately. Besides that with a little happy juice the OR conversations might start making sense and that would really be scarey! LOL

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.
