Self Checking

Can someone describe to me what a PM self checking itself would feel like?

Today out of the blue I had a cluster of abnormal, hard and un-rythmic beats. It lasted a few seconds. I then got dizzy and sweaty. Then it happened again.

Its' been an hour and so far HRH is in the 80's (I'm still nervous), hasn't happened again...but was suggested to me it may have been my PM self checking itself.

Called the dr...no call back since. Think I'm having just some PVC's for the fun of it now!

I've never been aware of it self checking before so not sure what that would feel like.

THANKS

Self test

The best description of the self test is that it feels almost the same as an office or phone check.

My Medtonics self test or phone check forces the HR to 85 and then slowly lowers the pacing voltage until it starts skipping beats. It then raises the voltage until reliable pacing occurs. This tests for the smallest voltage that will produce consistent pacing. This part of the test feels like your heart is beating faster than usual with several skipped beats.

The pacing voltage is then set to a voltage that has a safety factor over the measured one. Then the pacere forces the HR to 99 for a short burst to assure that the settings are OK for higher rates. Of course when you are just relaxing and your HR jumps to 99 it is noticeable.

Where the real problem comes in is if it makes you anxious then even when the test is over your HR can be high and sometimes uneven.

Sounds like the doctor is using the diagnostic procedure in use these days. Wait 24 HRs to call back. If the patient is still alive their was no problem. If not there is nothing he/she can do anyway. Case solved, submit bill to insurance. LOL
