Anybody skipping?

Meds? Thats my thing lately. I cut some of them. I'm healthy and just can't see becoming a Med Junkie? What do you think???

I think you need to discuss it with your doctor. I'm all for avoiding meds at all costs, but the dr needs to know what we're up to.

Meds?

Did I read this correctly. that you are skipping meds? I have understand because I have had some issues with my meds as well. This is how I handled it though... (I didn't just quit)

1. I kept track of all side effects & made a list
2. I took the list along with me to see my doc and we went over it. It was quite long.
3. We reviewed why I needed the medication in the first place and whether or not I still needed it.
4. Together we decided how to go forward, we discussed alternatives.

I like being "drug free" but I can't live that way right now, but that doesn't mean it always has to be that way. Just this summer I was taken off one of the most powerful blood pressure meds we can take. I was actually put in the hosp. because of the side effects! So now, I take responsibility for what I take and what I choose to stop. I also pay close attention to how I am feeling... very important.

I suggest checking with your doctor and get some information before making any changes. Just stopping medication can have some adverse effects.

I suggested my own medication

After my PM was implanted My Dr. said I needed 50m of Atenolol to keep my blood pressure under control. After starting with this, I was tired all the time and could hardly move. So I asked to try 25m instead. This has been the best solution it keeps my BP under control and I don't feel the side effects of the Atenolol. So don't always go along with your Dr. on everything. Ask Questions and see if there might be a middle ground that still works. Now I can function every day and my BP is controlled. A win, win. This is just a suggestion to help with controlling your own life and meds. The Drs. are not God they don't know everything. Everyone is different. If you are having adverse
effects talk to your Dr. Bowlrbob

I'd love to Flush Mine

I'm tired of taking pills. I was going to talk to my Dr about cutting back on my meds. The main one I want to see go away is the coumadin. I may be able to talk him into letting me drop this. I had a catherization about a year ago. I was told my arteries were clear and there was no problem with blockages. Then I was put on a statin drug for cholesterol. If my arteries are clear why do I need a drug to prevent them from clogging? It's like using Drano when you don't have a clog.
I agree with you Gary. I'm convinced I'm throwing money down the toilet with these prescriptions.

Meds

I just want to comment on my meds as I was taking Atenolol 25mg per day for 17 years, running out of go power lots. With my recent new PM, differant Cardiologist I'm on Betapace 80 mg twice a day and it has cleaned up the Atrial Fib. Doing Rehab I get checked every time EKG strip and blood pressure 120/70,can't beat it at age almost 79.
I have been very active all my life and still able to stay active. The Betapace really did help getting rid of years of tiredness common with Atenolol. Also it's a real pleasure to drop in bed and go to sleep in 60 seconds. (Not Always) DonB

Is it true?

that the doctor gets a residual income from each med, each refill??? The more the merrier! The Doc isn't taking them!

I dont like the thought

by walkerd - 2009-11-09 07:11:59

of all the meds im on, since I havent been to med school I must put my faith into my doctor with my health. I dont know what is made now adays that doesnt say that it doesnt cause some health concern. If there wherent so many lawsuits there wouldnt be a 20 page side effects to medication, whats that old saying all they are doing is covering thier arses, this could happen.
This subject is total up to you, its your body your life you must deciede what to do. Hope you make the right choice.

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
