City of Pittsburgh & Pacer

I did it! Monday Morning early. Fired up the 928 and pointed it towards the big city. I'm about 30/miles south of Pittsburgh. I decided to take a small road in. So here we go. The coffee and the roar of the engine woke me-made me alert. How loud? At a McDonalds or BK drivethru I have to turn the engine off to order.
I was enjoying the open road then as I got closer to town it was bumper to bumper. This car doesn't like to sit in traffic. So I waited around 15 min. Little movement. Pittsburgh is an awful town to get into and has been as far as my college days in the 70's, but that's another post! I'm sure my Blood Pressure was up. A quick check of the pulse watch. Pulse fine. Still sitting still idling, so I turn out and go up a hill away from the mess. Down another hill and I'm in the West End. Another jam. A little while and then I'm on the bridge. The city is to my right. The high bridge over water was a little scary. What if...., What if...., press the gas & get over it!

Finally I'm on the North Side(now the North Shore, where's the ocean?) AGH Allegheny General Hospital is easy to see as it's the highest building there. I see it, roll down past the park, hang a left then into the parking garage. All the way to the roof. I shut down the 928 and crawl out. Tremendous view of the city, the houses on the hill and the long steps up to them. Geez I forgot all about the pacer. AGH was buzzing with activity. I dropped of my tests and headed back to the elevator. It's glass with a view. No dizziness!

Back in the car and ready to "Get out of Town!" This time I challenge the big road. A quick downshift and I'm on the ramps. Pirate field on the left and Steelers on the right. The ramps are crazy but wide open. I bear left then work right then left on the Fort Pitt bridge then into the tunnel. No dizziness in the tunnel. Finally I'm out in the open. Up a big hill...moving pretty quick, cat like. Wide tires hold me to the road. None of the other cars have any power. Here we go....Greentree, Carnegie then I79 South. Nice fast ride home. I feel good. Forgot again about the Pacer. Hope you enjoyed my experience. Any big city tests you.

Thanks again to all of you that sent me messages...They were all awesome. I wish I could drive down to the event...but maybe a little too early yet. Thanks again. I plan to forget completely about my little battery Pacer.

I love the way you tell a story because you take us right along with you! In reading about your drive into Pittsburgh I can could just feel the roar of the engine and the delight in your heart! What an amazing feeling. Thank you for sharing.
You are right about driving to Tampa... a bit long for a new pacer... but there are flights down to Tampa everyday... Just a little invite in case you are on the fence with making a decision! We would all love to see you and any other pacers who would like to join the group!

I hope you have a great day!

I know it's crazy but I feel safer driving but who knows, I'm thinking about it! Thanks for your inspiration!

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
