About two years ago I had problems with PVCs. I gave up caffeine and they went away. About six months ago I began drinking regular coffee from time to time with no problems. Needless to say this consumption continued and increased.
This past Friday while running on a treadmill, 23 minutes into my run I suddenly suffered a series of PVCs that went into V-tach (pulse rate of 248), accompanied by shortness of breath.
The above was verified by an interrogation of my PM.
Never having experienced this before, I called 911 and was taken by ambulance to the ER. The epsiode passed on its own and I was discharged after being observed for 24 hours.
I'm waiting for a call from my cardiologist, who was away for the holiday weekend.
I'm now back on caffeine free regime. I'm hoping that this was the culprit.
Has anyone else experienced this type of issue?
Thanks,
Syd

My dad and I have both done good imitations of a heart attack and caffeine was the culprit.

Having SSS and Afib is something I have to lived with but of course with PM (implanted May,2012)...my life is a bit easier...struggling but coping.
I never had problem with coffee since I only drink one cup in the morning....I did not see any difference before and after the pm..honestly, I'm one among those people who can still sleep right after a cup of coffee...beats me why!!!
What I do every time I go for my power walk is cup of coffee around 5am(I'm an early riser) then do stretches around 6ish then hit the road for 45 mins to an hour with a bottle of water in hand. Once back at home, I'll put up my leg for about 20 mins. then do my exercise combination for 30 mins....then lots of water after during the day since I move a lot on my days off....when not too tired after work...I do exercise at night..at least an hour before bedtime...palpitations no longer a problem!!! I still have it every now and then but not too bad...no ER!!!
I was told that having Afib...HR can go up to 300 (not sure I can handle that..I believed I hit 184 during my hospital stay)...I ended up taking beta blocker...been experimenting with the third one at the moment...my problem nowadays is being lightheaded and headaches...this I have to report to my dr...oh, I can still function well if you're wondering..it's just very annoying sometimes!!!
Just remember each person respond to a lot of things in a different way....like healing..it takes time...
my best regards!

Syd,
What did your cariologist have to say about your episode?

Syd,
I am responding because I want to monitor responses to your post.
I am only one month with my first pacemaker, but 2 weeks in, I had something happen while on treadmill. I don't run, but walk at about 4.8 mph. I get a good sweat going before my half hour is up.
Bradycardia and some pauses had been my symptoms leading up to the implatation.
This "event" for me happened after my one week interrogation.
Twice during my same walk had short flutter or rapid pulse about 20 minutes in. After the second, I got off the treadmill, but since they only lasted about 4-6 seconds each, I did not feel the need to call 911 immediately.
Doctors office didn't get too excited when I told them about it the next day and were OK with waiting for my 3 month interrogation end December.
