Sleep problems

I had my PM implanted in July. Ever since I have had problems sleeping (waking frequently), vivid dreams and nightmares.

I never experienced any sleep problems prior to the PM.

Anyone have similar problems?

Yes, I had terrible nightmares. The WORST nightmares ever in my life. In fact I had to have a chat or two with a professional before I could sleep through the night. It was partly because of me and partly because of the MEDICATIONS that I was taking.

Good luck, and get some help if you need it.

Wild Dreams

What medications are you taking? Many heart medications will cause vivid, wild or weird dreams. Calcium channel blockers (diltiazem is the one I take now) are the worst for me. But beta blockers also cause dreams I don't like. Thank goodness mine are never what I call nightmares but they can be so vivid it is unreal and I find them tiring sometimes. I usually cannot remember a dang one of them two minutes after I wake up.

I'm not taking any meds, just the PM.

No meds either, and sleep can be a challenge. I don't believe it is the PM but probably the stress of the situation being played out in my dreams. At least that is what I think is happening with me. Hope that you start to move past it; good luck!

Sleep

I guess having a pm affects everyone differently! I am sleeping way too much...10 hours a night and having lovely dreams and even remembering them when I wake up. What is so very strange about this is that I honestly don't remember dreaming for years before the pm.and I always managed on less than 8 hours sleep.
Good luck getting rid of those bad dreams!

I WONDER

Could it be that the low setting on your pacemaker is not low enough and is keeping you in the dream zone instead of a deeper sleep? Cheers Peter

Thanks

G. Pierre,

Definitely worth mentioning to your doc, especially if they still exist after 1 1/2 years. Many times docs do not tell patients about possible side effects.

My insomnia and nightmares eventually went away after a few months.

Good luck,

Syd

Sleep issues that started with implantation May 4, 2023

I used to get great sleep prior to the implantation. It has been horrid since surgery. I thought the first six weeks were because of the Velcro strap I had to wear at night and to sleep on my back, which is NOT my preferred position. I'm a stomach sleeper with arms over my head. Once I was cleared for all activity and positions on June 23, I thought my sleep would return to its normal, wonderful self. It has not. I barely make it through my days. I feel horrible and certainly not the Energizer Bunny that everyone told me I'd be after the surgery. I used to swim and go to the gym, garden; in general I'm very active for 71. Now I'm just dragging to get the essentials done. Anyone else?
