H1N1

So, I called to get an appointment to get the H1N1 vaccine...the screening nurse called back and besides not having a clue about what my inplant is, she said that she would have to call back because she "wasn't sure that I have a heart condition". Seriously. Like for real. One of the reasons why I couldn't get an appointment was because I haven't been to my primary since December...I've been to the cardiologist 14 times since July (and had 2 surgeries), but I don't have a "chronic" illness b/c I didn't go to primary care since Dec. I wanted to say that the reason I hadn't been was because their service sucks and this whole heart thing started on a day that I tried to get an appointment at primary care, but they didn't answer the phone, so I went to the university clinic and ended up in the emergency room. But for real, has anyone else had a problem getting the H1N1 vaccine in this first round?

Where Are You

I'm in Pennsylvania, age 63 with an ICD and obvious heart condition. I've been asking about a H1N1 vaccination now for at least two months and my doctor still doesn't know when they'll get "more" vaccine." I had to go to a local pharmacy that now have these places called "Minute Clinics" to get my regular flu shot-at least the big pharmacy chains were able to get that vaccine-though they also do not have H1N1.

Thank goodness this is only a "national emergency" or we'd all be in trouble. On the other hand my chiropractor is screaming that no one should get the flu shot anyway (Obama is not getting one) and my grand kids were able to get the "first" H1N1-apparently for full effect, kids need two shots.

finally "got" it

...so I called this morning b/c the H1N1 clinic was today and I still hadn't been called back by the screening nurse. The person that took my call was 'hilarious' and after a very inane conversation asked me if I expected to be called back...I was like, hummm, let me think about that for a moment, um, yeah. It turned out they were "waiting" to ask my primary if I qualified to get the shot...he happened to be at the site today and they pretty much had no intention of asking him. I asked, if I was supposed to wait until after the clinic to see if I could have gotten one. I happened to be at the health facility when I got called back finally and got to hear, in person the Dr's not so calm response to the nurse who had had no intention of finding out in time for me to get the vaccine. He was like "what part of "cardiac implant" in a 30 year old sounds like she doesn't have a heart problem???!!! Of course she should get this vaccine she told you she was having another surgery within the month and her medical record that you just handed me and I know you read verifies that! You'd better hope that you can reach her so she can get here in time for the clinic!"
...it was rather nice to hear. I hate it when people think that I'm lying about my heart, but I hate it even more when stupid people have control over important things...like how could I have falsified my medical record?
