Ok, so this is what happened today,
I have a "mass" in my left breast and for the last 3 months it has been being monitored. I didn't know if I had a serious problem or not. I just had to wait to find out if it had grown. I am fine. I still have the mass but we are waiting again. Oh well, I don't care... No worries! I am fine.
Now this is the funny part. This is what happened during the mammogram today.... The room was a bit tense. Very serious, especially me. I was actually a little frightened. This was my 3rd mammogram in 3 months.
I was asked to strip from the waist up, given a half gown to wear. Next, the breast was placed into the mammogram xray and the plate came down to flatten me into the machine. I hope this isn't too graphic, anyway the operator was trying to "fit" me into the xray when she jumped back and said with alarm! "WHAT IS THAT?" I said in a scared voice! "What is what" I asked? She pointed to my chest and I had to look down to see what she was pointing at! ha haha! I simply said... "my pacemaker" and my pacemaker scars. Said as if everyone has one. he he The poor girl was scared half to death!
Hey! I just plain forgot, I was so worried about this darn mass thing. he he he. So she got her pictures, but she was not happy that I forgot to tell her about the pacemaker. hee hee hee. I guess, she should learn to ask if we have any extra hardware before she begins to "feel us up" ha hahahah
I have the upmost respect for anyone who is dealing with breast cancer. But this was just too funny not to share. So if I have offended, please won't you forgive me in the name of pacemakers.

mammogram
by kathyfletchall - 2011-01-15 08:01:16
I had my first mammogram since having my pm in a couple months ago and I was actually excited that I got see my battery pack for the first time. The technician was very gentle around the area and I had no problem whatsoever. But I have to say, it was pretty cool seeing it plain as day on the xray. Don't avoid getting mammograms because of having a pacer!

Hi all, PLEASE DON'T WORRY. My Dr. has a plan and I feel good with that. :-)
I had 2 other mammograms from the same person within the last 3 months, I figured she knew me by then ha ha.
The actual mammogram was no problem, so PLEASE ladies, get the mammos! We need these test. Just be sure to mention you have a PM or ICD.
I love all your comments, but especially the one from fiddlebritches that I am an carrying an alien reproductive system in my shoulder ha ha! Fantastic!
Thanks all,
Susie

funny susie. i know i can't believe how now i sometimes forget it too. i just had my annual check and it is a rare one that you don't feel pinched and prodded. so funny that she got so upset. she is not the one with the p.m. or the mass...hope it turns out okay. it is something where you need to have a lot of patience and i sometimes don't for sure. keep cool..lol jessie

Keep us posted all! So sorry for having to deal with the "unknown". The anticipation must be awful.

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.

oh dear. i have a mammogram scheduled for 2 weeks now and I have not made an appointment. I am scared, since my PM ist only "2 weeks old". I guess we have to "volunteer" info to the operator!! well, maybe I will get my courage up and be "flattened".
