effexor

I started effexor over a month ago. I started off on 75 mg while I weaned off of my other antidepressant. 2 weeks ago I went up to 150mg. THe past few days I have noticed my blood pressure going up. Today I have the most outrageous headache and my blood pressure is 160/100. The doctor said only about 2% of people develope high blood pressure from this med. I do have a history of high blood pressure but been quite controlled. Anyone had similar response? I did NOT want to go on the medication but caved in with some convincing from the good ole doc. Should have stayed my ground and said NO! Go figure if it is going to happen, it is going to happen to me.

lack of research

So upon so research of my own (and help from the pharmacist) there is some talk about effexor interfering with metoprolol. It does not come up in the pharmacy system, which is quite odd, but it is talked about on the effexor website. The pharmacist said there just isnt much research out there about it. Apparently it may decrease the blood pressure effects of metoprolol. At any rate the plan is to lower my dose (since you cant just stop it) and see what happens. I havent moved out of bed and I already have a headache, so imagine it is going to be a long day.

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
