Yesterday I did my first big climb on my bike since my implant. Climbed Lookout Mountain outside of Golden, Colorado. 90-97% THMR most of the way (it is a steep, sustained climb of about 6 miles. Total Ride was about 30) and besides being slow did great. On pace for my ride in Colorado's Triple Bypass Ride in July. So for all of the newbies and folks out there wondering if there is life after pacemaker implants I can tell you I am working my tail off to a) get back in shape and b) prove to myself that a screwed up electrical system won't stop me from living my life.
Here is a map of the ride I took yesterday:

GO PACERS!!!!! Oh and if any of you biking pacers ever get out to Colorado and want to go for a ride, give me a holler.

I have an old 10 speed in my moms basement. I bought it from a state trooper. He said it was $800. I'm inspired from reading your posts...may give it a spin!
How did you feel after your ride?

3 weeks post op for me today and I walked 1 mile with the dog this morning. Going to try for another mile this afternoon.
I am not a biker, but a walker. Outside when it's nice (do lots of hills), treadmill othertimes. I am determined to get back to the level I was at previously. Also, can't wait to get back into Pilates and Yoga.
Congrats and keep us updated on your progress, especially on your ride in July.
Great Job!

I have had my PM for alittle over 2 yrs. and I am hoping to become a personal trainer within the next year. I love lifting weights and doing alot of kettlebell. I was nervous to get started, but I am Loving it!
I do have to get a lead and battery change done in the next month, but once I am done with recovery I am sure I will be back at the gym again :)!
Keep up the good work, and enjoy the bike riding !

I was back doing aerobic exercise (elliptical and stationary bike) about 10 days after surgery (did some walking from 4 days out on). My doc okayed it. It was 4-5 weeks before I could lift anything over 25 lbs (no lifting at all above the shoulder in that time with my left and was not supposed to really lift anything over 5 lbs with that side but probably did just in every day activity). Really started working hard probably 5 weeks out (pushing my HR towards its TMHR).
As for how I feel after my rides... physically really depends upon how hard I push myself. Psychologically GREAT, even when I have a tough time because I am doing something maybe a little harder than I am ready for.
Christine, Great work. I would love to get back into being a spin instructor but full time job will probably prevent that. I miss seeing the joy on peoples faces as they work hard but feel like they have accomplished something after a good class.

I carried on training (cardio) but did not do weights for a few weeks until the scar had healed.
I now,
swim 1 mile in 25 mins 3 mornings a week
run 6 mile twice a week
spin class 2 lunch times
cycle 30-40 mile Sunday mornings
and do weights in the middle.
I am going to do a 500km charity bike ride in June.. I have found no restraints with the pacemaker. Infact I feel safer doing it because I get checked every 6 months...
Hope it goes well - go for it

I just received my pacemaker 2 days ago. I started a very intense exercise program back in November with a private trainer. I was overweight and out of shape and had not felt good for a very long time. I was determined to feel better. I lost 20 inches and was feeling much better but still having very irregular heart rates and some days could hardly do anything. I was diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome and a pacemaker was recommended. Honestly, my biggest hesitation was the fact that I would miss workout and get behind. I am so concerned about getting back in the gym and not going backwards. How soon after your surgery did you get back in the groove?
