Initially I was set up with 60/130 - Then I requested the upper raised for running and I now have 60/150. I have a Boston Scientific Altrua 60.
Me, too

Mine is set at 60 for lower and 130 for upper. It's a St Jude Victory 5816 (I think).
PM Settings
by SMITTY - 2009-05-31 11:05:05
Which time do you want? Initially my settings were L-80, H-140, then at my request L-70, H-140, then (Dr decided ) L-60, H-130, then (my request) L-30 (Yes that is L-30), H-130 then (Dr decided) L-70, H-130, then L-45, H-130, currently L-70, H-120.
For the last 2.5 years my heart rate drops into the 40 to 50 range for a few minutes to several hrs. each day. No, I have not been able to get an answer to my question of why does this happen?
I just live with this and adjust my activity as necessary and hope that my next PM (which should happen in a year or so) will solve the problem.
I'm a 60/130, too

Upper and Lower Rates

It depends on your condition and age.
The lower limit is usually in the 60-70 rate and for people in good physical condition as low as 50. Mine is set to 55.
The upper limit depends on a lot of things. The hearts tolerance to high HR declines with age. One common rule of thumb is 220-your age as a max. This doesn't mean the pacer has to be set to that rate though. Using this formula my upper rate would be 220-79=141bpm. However, I have mine set to 155. I just don't push it over 140. The 155 leaves me some room for emergencies. If I being chased by a mugger I more to be concerned about than my HR!
Where the upper limit is helpful is for a person who has runs of afib and without the limit their HR could go way high.
So, while there is always an "average" for any set of numbers, they are meaningless for an individual.

PETES RATE

LOWER 70. HIGHER 120. Probably about right for me although for a long time I did not think it was right for me. I know someone whose rate is 60 and 60, yes no upper or lower rates set. He had his rate response turned off. Peter

Hi, I have a medtronic dual lead PM and my rates are quite wide - low=40, high = 180 - have exceeded that in the past (according to the PM anyway).
Cheers
Simon.

As Frank said, averages mean little. We each have our own individual needs.
I think my lower rate is 60, but I never get near it so I don't really know. My upper limit was 130 for a few years, then 140 for about ten years, then last year I started going higher when working out so after several adjustments I ended up at 170. I still bump it occasionally but it only goes to 180 so we don't want to put it higher.
75/103

Very interesting right now my settings are the weirdest they have been so far. Every two weeks they change though. So only somebody that does not have to get adjustments often would have a consistent number range. Prior to this one it was 75/130.

I have a Medtronics E2DR33. They have twiked the upper limit a few times. Originally it was set at 150, but I never seemed to get that high (although I exercise vigorously). I am 61, and I question if theese settings should be changed upwards.
