Need Help With Battery Replacement Information

Hi All,

I am totally new to this and do not have anything with me right now. However, my father had a Metronic Pacemaker/Defibrillator installed in 2001. This was actually his second one. We had to wait for the FDA to approve the model that dad really needed. In any case, we were told some time back that when his battery gets low, we will hear a beeping sound. The doctors let us take home the original since we paid for it and we know for a fact that it went off at 7:30 a.m. every morning until the battery finally went dead. The one that is inside him now is doing it's beeping at 10:15 a.m. every morning. Has been this way for about a week. Dad is pretty much immobile. He only gets up from his bed to the bathroom (just a couple of steps). Otherwise he has a scooter he rides in up and down the halls with and takes to doctor's appointments. We called the doctor and he referred us to the doctor who put the device in. The appointment is set for the 15th. Dad is claiming that he feels good up until that beeping goes off and then it is down hill for him from there. Mind you, he does have asthma, COPD, severe heart disease, diabetes, you name it he pretty much has it. His blood pressure has been pretty good (for him that is) and his sugar is right where it should be without pills/insulin. Does anyone know what can potentially happen between now and the 15th? Are there any symptons we should be aware of? Is he in any danger? We were just at the cardiologist's office in December and he said we were okay with the battery and to wait until we hear the beeping. I would like to squash any fears my dad may be having about this. Thanks in advance!
