I have been reading the comments about people who are doing yoga with a PM. It seems everyone's PM is in their chest. I am on my 3rd PM, 27 years old, and due to some complications with my last replacement, my PM is now located under my ribcage. Does anyone else have a PM in this location?
If so, have you experienced any problems with inversion poses while doing yoga? I have recently started going to a yoga class and have been really enjoying it. Tonight while doing shoulder st...

I am so excited. I have been chosen to represent my state in the interstate championship in croquet. Most of the team of 8 are under 25. I'm the old granny of the team, kept going by a wonderful device that has changed my life for the better.
Never, ever give up on goals. Reach for the stars and you might hit the moon. I had sick sinus syndrome and kept passing out prior to my PM. Love it..

i've done a search on this site and the recommendations on when I could resume golf range from 24 hours to 6 months. My doctor who I deem somewhat liberal told me 6 weeks should be fine. He also told me it would have been okay to go on a 1 week cruise after 7 days. I cancelled the cruise. I don't want to do anything that would cause lead problems.
Any input will be appreciated.

Hello friends,
I made it to my second class this week. I was hanging in there or well I should say, (upside down with downward dog) in there and I was doing alright. My balance is a little wobbly, ok a lot wobbly because I am weak! but I didn't give up! Of course there are the pretty, young and strong girls in the class looking at me as if I have lost my mind, but it's ok I tell myself. So I just close my eyes and imagine that I am on a cruise ship somewhere nice and warm. I am able...

I've had my PM for 8 weeks and would love to start swimming. I've never been a competitive swimmer but love the serenity of having my ears submerged in water and the repetitive nature of laps. I've been good about not raising my arm over my head for 2 months, but feel like I'm ready to start swimming. However, I'm a little bit afraid of the pulling motion of the strokes. Naturally, I'll ask my doctor first, but I'm just wondering about those of you in the trenches so to speak and what your e...

Ok people, I have just come back from my first yoga class in about 6 years. That's right, I have not been in a exercise class for about 6 years. I have exercised some like walking, riding my bike and some trips to the YMCA, but nothing serious. I have to tell you... I can hardly move my right leg. My hip hurts so bad that I went to straight to hot bath and then when I got out I applied some deep heat to my hip. So here I sit.... in agony. ugh. lol
The pain in my hip over shadowed t...

Hello again and Happy New Year to you all. I was just wondering what sort of exercise I can do. I am now 2 months post PM. The site is still sensitive and uncomfortable to put left arm over chest to right side, but I now need to get out of the house and meet people and get ready to go back to work (I’m a health care assistant for the nhs). I live in gb north wales.
I have a bad drought of depression and think it wou...

Hi, i'm a 28 year old woman. I had a metal valve replacement along with a pacemaker fitted in 2004. I get short of breath most of the time, especially when i climb stairs. I know i need to lose some weight as that is part of the problem. What I need to know is , what exercises i can do to help lose weight, with out causing any problems with my heart condition? I would be grateful if somebody could give me some advice on this please.

Here is an excellent study conducted by Baylor Medical regarding the need for exercise to keep joints and muscles from atrophy:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2626349/
Everyone should read this. While the study is limited, it points out that being over-restrictive after Pacemaker surgery may not be a good thing.

I am a 72 year-old male. Love to ride my bike, walk, play golf. I am in week 3 after implantation of my pacemaker and want to start to plan a regimen of exercises so I can play golf as soon as reasonable. I am walking at a brisk pace now -- just 30 minutes, but want to build up. Also, any tips on what stretches, weights, etc I can use as I complete the 4 week initial rest period?
The docs haven't been much help -- just say stuff like, just gradually build back up to your normal li...

I just had a pacemaker implanted this week and am wondering what kind of recovery timeframe I'm really looking at before I'm training at full strength again. I am currently training for an Ironman in May and am wondering if that is still going to be realistic for me. I'm looking for any help here as I am just beginning to process all of this. Thanks.
Upper body work-outs - what's OK?

I used to do gym work. I've just had a pm fitted: surgeon says "no upper body exercise for 2 months, and then take care". My problem: I have a lower body neuropathy, so can just about walk but can get no decent work-rate from my legs so must focus on upper body. I feel stuffed!
What gym exercises - arm ergo, bench work, free weight work, etc.- can be done without risking movement of the leads (which is apparently the risk)?
Any advice/experience out there?

My son PJ who is 15 years old and is currently playing basketball for his JV team just got news today that he will be getting a pacemaker on January 17th. He loves playing basketball and loves playing baseball even more. he plays shortstop and secondbase and loves to slide head first and try to make diving plays when on defense. Will he have to change his style of play once the pacemaker is installed? I cant imagine him not playing since he's been playng since he was 8. If any one has input or s...

I am a 78 year old woman who has had a history of a-fib for 30+ years. when medications no longer controlled my rate I had a partial ablation and a pacemaker installed. Now I find that, though I feel much better mentally, I find that my stamina has decreased significantly. Before the pacemaker I could ride a bicycle 10 miles, now muscle fatigue stops me after 2. I used to run the elliptical stepper at 10+ calories per minute for 30 minutes and now I am down to 7 or 8 for 20 minutes. Is this a...

In reference to prior discussion about obtaining direct access to out output data.
This is a day-by-day summary for the month of July. This was mailed directly to me on Oct. 2 by a very kind individual at St. Judes.
This is useful info for people who track their exercise.
Apologies: Correct cardio-exercise is at 60%-80% of maximum heart rate.
