I have heard a lot of conflicting information with this question. I was once told that it is considered HASMAT material and not allowed. Once removed and sent back for cleaning will I be allowed to keep my old pacer batteries? Getting a pacemaker was a huge thing for me in my life with a congenital heart defect and as weird as some may find it to be I'd like to be able to keep my "old hearts" in a shadow box.

Hi all, hope everyone is ok!
Some of you will remember I had my pacemaker replaced last October in an emergency, as the battery had completed drained.
After further investigation, there is a possibility that one of my leads was damaged as a result of a car accident I had in the August, causing my battery to drain.
Someone hit me from behind on the motorway.
Has anyone else experienced similar trauma as a result of a car accident?
Thanks guys x

Ive been going to the pacemaker clinic for the past 3 months because they say they cannot change my ICD until it reaches 2.63 on the battery. I am at 2.64. What will happen when it reaches 2.63? Will an alarm sound? or will it wait until I go get it checked again? It was originally place 3/16/2010 but in June of 2011 misread my pvc's for vf so I was given 14 shocks while I was fully awake. Traumatic to say the least. I had to be put into vf to resync it. Then I had a pocket revision July...

Almost six months since my new pacemaker and leads were implanted on the right side and the site has healed really well. Not much pain at all. However the old pacemaker leads on the left side which have been implanted for 25 years are causing severe sharp pains. I have good movement in my left arm and shoulder so can't understand why the pain. The pacemaker clinic say it must be muscular. What should I do about it? Thanks for any advice given.

Hi - I had my St Jude Medical device implanted around 6 months ago. In the last 3 months noise has appeared on the readouts that I'm being told could be attributable to a fractured lead or more likely a loose set screw (an X-ray didn't show any fracture on the visible part of the lead although there is a chance a fracture could be located in the lead close to the device at the point where it is sutured to the muscle). The proposal is to go in and take a look - if loose set screw, it can be tight...

Can anyone provide the number of days after the day that their or a family member's pacer check indicated that their device batteries need to be replaced?
Thank you.

Aloha! I'm just became a member. I got my pacer (a.k.a little engine that could!) in 2009. Thought I was good for 10 yrs. now I've been told 6 mos to a yr! Is that because I'm paced 90% of the time? I have a nasty A-Fib. I love my pacer! Best surgery results ever! Take care fellow pacemaker clubbers! Mary Ann

Hello, I had a pacemaker installed on Thursday and all is well. However, I tripped going up the stairs and caught myself on my hands... What are the chances that I dislodged something? I didn't land very hard but I don't know how much it takes.

I was hoping the link would just be click and go, but it might be click and paste.
Anyway, take the time to have a look. It's rather good. I think it explains a lot of our conditions very well. It certainly made me smile. Jx

My husband has a Boston Incepta ICD which he has had for just over 2 years.Yesterday he had usual device check and was told one of the leads has totally broke. His cardiologist wants to do echo and see results before he decides if he is going to renew it as he is not symptomatic. It is not the defib or pacing lead-is it ok just to leave it until symptoms get worse. They are surprised it has broken - he did fall getting out of bath about 8 weeks ago could this have caused it?Any input appreciated.Tk...

I just had a pacemaker placed 9/8/15. On day 4 of post op I started experiencing palpitations, chest pain and the inability to lay flat. After a night of torture I finally went to the ER. After an extensive work up, it was determined that my ventricular lead had detached from the wall, was pacing on its own, and occasionally poking the inside of my ventricle causing the pain. The Medtronics rep came in and turned the pacer off and I was scheduled for surgery to fix the lead placement.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
