Many thanks to Frank and bdon for your very prompt and appropriate comments on my previous message. I may be a newbie to this forum but not to living with a pacemaker (several years with a St. Jude twin lead model). And certainly not a newbie to welding. I am 84 years old and first welded when I was about 10 years old. My father operated a welding fabricator business on our next street in an industrial town near New York City, and I learned both gas and electric welding and machine shop pra...

Many thanks to Frank and donb for your prompt and worthwhile comments. I just posted a very detailed summary of my situation but it appears that the forum system deleted the entire thing. Perhaps I don't know how to use it, being a newbie to the forum, but not a newbie to pacemakers or welding or to anything as I am 84. But thanks for your comments and interest.

Does anyone know what the magnetic threshold tolerance is for pacemakers? I bought a Trifield Meter recently hoping it would offer some guidance in trying to resume operation of a welding power unit but it simply goes off scale when I turn the thing on. In fact, it goes off scale practically everywhere in the house like light switches and the refrigerator, etc.
So, this device is useless for the purpose. Is there a meter anywhere that offers definitive guidance as to whether weldi...

Prior to pm used a Phillips GoLite for SADS as I live in Pacific NW. Now that we are in our short days, I got out my light. Called Phillips to see if it was compatable with pm...., they didnt know??? Called Biotronik and they said you can use it as long as you keep it at least a foot away from pm. Figured Id pass that tidbit your way in case someone has SADS. The light helps me this time of year. I really need to move back to a sunny climate.
Hope everyone has a nice turkey day. Think we ca...

I received my pm in July 2011 and prior to getting pm I use to donate blood whenever I could. Yesterday I thought I would get back to donating and was informed you have to wait 6 months post op to donate. Another piece of info was to ask for supervisor when registering as let to that person know you have a pm as they need to turn off the sealer they use as it can interfere with your pm. Wonder why that isnt a better known piece of info. No signs and nothing on the paperwork they have you read....

I never thought that I was a "space cadet" but today I really have to wonder about myself. Here is what happened....
As some of you know, I am a graphic artist and I have a small print shop. Sometimes I have to order materials for clients from other sources. Today a big box arrived via UPS. It wasn't scheduled to arrive until next Monday, but it appeared today. I had not a clue as to what was in the package. So I began to struggle with the tape and cardboard holding it against my c...

Hi!
I am about to purchase my first set of hearing aids and I would like them to have the Blue Tooth streamer accessory because cell phone usage when driving is forbidden where I live and I find it is a darn nuisance, not say dangerous, when in heavy traffic. However, the microphone streamer device I would like to purchase to go with my aids to make them active with my cell phone, is made to hang from the neck and obviously very close to my pacemaker. Does anyone have any experience o...

I've only just been fitted with my pm. Noticed palpitation type buzzing in chest on journey home from hospital. It happens whenever I travel in our Jag which is 5yrs old. It has an onboard computer with sat nav and hands free bluetooth telephone. Am I getting interference? Haven't driven yet as I'm still in 1st 7days since implantation.
Has anyone had a similar ex[perience?

I recently had a St. Jude Model PM 2210 implanted. Is it safe to go into a casino where there are hundreds of slot machines?

Hello Everyone,
I have had 2 pacemakers put in recently, the first was removed due to one of the leads perferating my heart wall. I feel much better and am back to work at a small fab plant. I have noticed that while I am at work I begin feeling pressure in my chest and sigh alot. Almost like I can't take a deep enough breath. The feeling dissipates when I leave work. We have welders in the back of the plant and I avoid that area but I guess I am wondering if there's enough else...

I asked the management of the shopping complex how much electro-magnetic energy was being generated by the six antennas. They did not know. PMs and this type of energy are not good friends.

Does anyone have any experience of pm interference from their Sattelite Navigatgion System? I recently bought one and I'm pretty sure if interferes with my pacemaker as I feel a lot of AF when it's on. It could of course be something else that needs addressing, but I'd be interested to have your comments, thanks.
Asystole?

Does anyone know of a pacemaker setting or complication that would make hospital heart monitors think you are in asystole when you are not? I ended up in the hospital after another (!) fainting spell and the alarm would not stop going off. It kept saying I was in asystole. This is not the first time that's happened in various ERs so I was wondering if maybe there's something with my PM that is interfering with the monitoring. I'm pretty sure I wasn't actually in asystole.
