Hi everybody
I am joining because I have had a ICD for 16 years, and I have had three ICDs in that time. I have had several episodes in that time but I really believe that the ICD saved my life. I am 77 years old.
I just want to tell people that in time youy come to accept the ICD and after a time hardly think about it at all.
Having ICD turned off
I am new to the CLUB. this s my first posting. Im facing a difficult decision About 3 years ago I had an ICD storm. Device fired about 75-80 dimes in about an hour and a half. It was the worst day of my 62 year life. All firings were Inappropriate shocks. Since then I believe I have been really Spooked.. I can relive the sensation of the shocks with no problem. I have since had an Arterial Flutter Ablation. No Afib since then [surgery about 20 months ago], i'm seriously considering having the...
Set up merlin@home transmitter help please
Hi everyone, I'm new to this and hoping someone out there can help me with advice please. My father has been given the Merlin @home transmitter (EX1150) and i have been trying to set it up but without luck yet. My parents don't have a landline and the device came along with the usb connector, now i take it that the data which is transmitted will require an internet connection of some kind for the transmitter to work? I am uk based and i cannot find any technical support numbers for uk and my pa...
selection
Does anyone know where a selection chart for ICDs is? I want to get a smaller one than my medtronc device. It sticks out, hurts and is a constant reminder of my issues.

Looking for inpiu---Had a Boston Sciencetific pacemaker/defibulator installed on July3, 2014. That night it felt like my heart was going to pop through my chest! Tech came in that morning and saw a probelem and adjusted the device. All was well until I got home. Same problem, I could feel and my wife could see my rib cage rise and fall as I was feeling the effects. 24 hours later the feeling comes and goes and doesn't seem as bad.
Will call surgeon Monday but I am wondering, has anyone e...
Concerned
I have had a pacer for 9 years and now my dr wants to change it to a ICD. I have had a veinogram which indicated a blockage. Could the blockage have been caused from build up around the lead? I have been extremely short of breathe also - could the blockage be part of the reason for that.??? Thanks for any help I can get.

My heart rate recently went to 145 A-fib ,went to my electrophysiologist so he could shock me back into rhythm .He wanted to put me the hospital to do it but I wanted to feel it so I'd know if my device was working .I have had my device for about 4 months now with no shocks .He asked if I was serious ,I said. Sure I am ,so he told me to lay down and he would get the programing device and shock me .Told him I didn't want any drug for the shock I wanted to feel how it . He told me I'd hear a buzz...
AFIB
I am writing this in the hope that it may help those suffering from AFIB.
I'm 72 and and suffer from AFIB and hypertension. I had a pacemaker implanted some years ago but my AFIB condition never improved until some 6 months ago. Then, following a google search on magnesium, I decided to add magnesium to my diet. The result was simply stunning.
My AFIB has stopped and I even had to reduce my intake of medication for hypertension. What surprised me most was that I was not eve...
bradycardia with ICD
I have a St Jude ICD set up for Resynch therapy. The base rate is 60 beats per min and the max rate is 120 beats per min. The rate sensor is on. Sometimes at rest, my heart rate will drop to the low 50's and upon exertion it will drop to the mid 40's. Shouldn't the device kick in to prevent these low readings? The report the tech gave me a copy of indicates that the device is functioning properly. The ICD was implanted in july of 2009 and has about 6 months of battery left. The rate sensor was...

Benefits of CRT-D
Greetings to my fellow Pacemaker Club members. I just joined because my Cardiologist wants me to receive a CRT-D implant. I still have good energy, exercising daily and leading a fairly active life. However, my EF has gradually declined since my moderate heart attack almost 12-years ago. I'd be extremely grateful if any CRT-D recipients could address the following questions: (1) What is your inappropriate shock rate? (2) Has your EF improved? (3) Do you have less arrhythmia and generally...

Is it or can it be made reasonably safe to use a plasma cutter.
tired
I'm 74 yrs old and this is my third pacemaker (ICD) I feel ok but sometimes I have to take a nap at 11am and 3pm..then go to bed at 9pm and up at 6am. I don't feel like doing anything and if I do it must be done before noon.I also have shortness of breath upon any work ?
Is this normal ? I'm due back for a pacer check next week ! could it be the ICD needs to be adjusted ?

Infection?
Hi everyone!
I just had a question in hopes to maybe someone having an answer. I just had a pocket revision for my pacemaker about 2 months ago and had been getting along fine until last night when out of no where had pain shooting through the left shoulder area where the pacemaker is. When I lay down on my back or left side the pain is absolutely horrible and I can't even touch the pacemaker itself. Also it feels like a fire is sitting behind it. I am scheduled in 4 weeks for another...
Confused
Hi I had a biventricular defibrillator implanted on March 6, 2014. They removed the little pacemaker and replaced it with this lovely device to keep me going. All is going pretty well, my EF is up from 35 to 40. My question is this..I am pacing 100% for the bottom of the heart which is where I was told all the problems are due to a scar on the heart muscle most likely caused by my lovely disease called Sarcoidosis.
I also have complete cardiac bloc and left bundle branch. Had a crazy inc...

In order to your question no you will have no warning at all. Like I said I felt my heart flutter then I heard a loud pop then my left shoulder drew backwards for several seconds. My arm was very sore for two days. I am just glad I was close to the bed because the shock will being you to your knees. After it happens your really supposed to call 911 but I had home health coming in . Check with your Dr. after this happens. Contact me any time
