I am 4 hours from getting a pace maker tossed into my rib cage. My brother already calls me tony stark. It doesnt seem like this should be happening... but my 24 hour heart monitor results showed my bpm had dropped to 14 bpm a total of 11 times. Im very curious for life after this change. Thank you for having this forum here for resource. Ive already read so many posts and articles. I look forward to speaking with all of you.
Respectfully,

Friday the 28th will be my surgery for getting a pacemaker. I have done so much reading and had my pre-op last friday. I got to meet with the anesthesiaologist and had blood work done as well as another ekg. I was not really nervous then and even earlier in the week I wasn't, but now knowing I only have two days, I am all kinds of nervous. Like I know what to expect from the anesthesiast, and for the surgery from what i read, but I still feel like a wreak. Was anyone else nervous? Wh...

Hi,I was wondering if it's normal to sometimes feel a quick sharp pain(doesnt last long just about like half a second) around the implant location even after 1 month of surgery?

My dad is 100% dependent on his pacemaker defibrillator unit. The turned off one lead to lower chamber today because it was kicking his diaphragm so much it affected his breathing and he couldn't sleep. They are planning lead extraction in 10 days. There are 5 or 6 leads, some of which have been there since 1998. Any idea what his procedure and recovery will be like?

12 days ofter PM implementation, and I woke up in a cold sweat in the night with significant pain in my shoulder, armpit and arm -- the kind of pain you get from pinched nerves. And the 'geography' of my chest had altered...
My pacemaker (placed under the muscle) seems to have shifted spontaneously -- whereas before it wasn't in the least visible and I couldn't even feel it though the skin/muscle, it is now sitting above the scar at the junction between the shoulde...

My husband (age 76) will soon be having a pacemaker procedure. I am physically disabled and he is my caregiver.
I would like to know what we can expect in terms of recovery. Approximately how long will he be "out of commission". We will hire a caregiver while he is unable to care for me. How long is the recovery period in general? I should add that he does not have to lift me but I do need assistance with some activities of daily living.
Than...

It's been 11 days since my pacemaker was implanted when I developed a slow heartbeat and was diagnosed with heart block. I have a form of rheumatoid arthritis called Adult Onset Stills Disease, and am on Humira and methotrexate to keep it in remission. With any surgery, I always have to stop the biologic until I'm healed. My scar is healing well and don't seem to have any signs of infection , so that's good news. My rheumatologist says not to restart the Humira until all...

Hello Fellow Pacers!
I am very glad to have found the Pacemaker Club website and have felt great comfort when browsing at all the available experience. You have the procedure and you go home with very little practical support.
PM insertion end Aug 2018 for AV node that blocks some pulses at rest but works well on exercise. My resting pulse was 48 bpm average now 68 with the PM. But this is not a question about the PM and settings..

I suspect I'm having it easy compared with some, for which I'm very grateful.
5 days post-implantation and although it aches a bit around the scar, I'm not in what I'd call pain, especially after I worked out that stuffing extra padding in the bottom of my left bra-cup took off a lot of strain (I have what my mother used to call a large crumb-shelf). It does make me look like a lopsided Barbara Windsor but it's definitely worth it, and I wish somebody had told...

Hi fellow friends 😊 so I’m 8 weeks post op and just wondering does anyone else still have pain? It’s not the incision but almost where the leads go into the vein, the PM also hurts if I lay the wrong way in bed and other times it just aches. Getting very frustrated and the doctor says it’s healed perfectly and I just have to forget that it’s there. I sometimes wish I didn’t have this and just left things alone.

My pacemaker was implanted 9/3/18, and I'm coping well, able to manage discomfort with tylenol. One issue during recovery has been difficulty sleeping well on my back and figuring out how to sleep on my right side. I've found that placing a small pillow under my left arm helps be more comfortable. I have not been able to sleep on my left side at all. I got conflicting advice regarding motion allowed for my left arm from the hospital on discharge, and my surgeon's nurse...

when i was sent home after my pacemaker procedure last week, i was told not to raise my (pacemaker side) arm. Is that just post-op, or is that the way it's going to be from now ok?
Thanks

I am on coumidan because I have a mechanical heart valve. When the...

I am due for my first pacemaker replacement in 2 weeks. I understand that most likely it will be an outpatient procedure with general anesthesia for pain but I will be awake. How longer after will a be in bed only? When will I walking around only in mild discomfort? I have an office job - mainly on the computer- when can I return to the office? Will I be in pain. I just don’t know what to expect. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

For my experience, the implant yesterday afternoon was great (20 hrs ago). No significant pain overnight or today. So no painkillers needed at all yet.
The recovery was quick and total time including surgery and recovery and release was just 3 hrs .
Feeling great and following all post surgery directions. So far so good .
Unit is expected to last over 14 yrs at 50% pacing. It's a bigger device than other Boston units .
Feels fine in this 72 yr old body....

I have a CRT-D and will need a new device in the near future. I had a bad experience with counsious sedation and wonder if I can request general sedation so I sleep through the surgery. I woke up numerous times previously and felt tugging as they put the device in. All of the sedation that’s needed made me sick after the surgery. I had it put in under muscle so it would not show so it took awhile to get put in. Has anyone had general sedation rather than counsio...
