Exercise Strategy

Hi Guys,

Please note I also posted this message under Surgery & Recovery-

I am two week PM owner as a result of thorascopic maze surgery that inadvertently ablated my SA Node. I am essentially 100% atrial paced. Would appreciate any comments on development of an exercise strategy. I have been a runner 40 years and I have attempted jogging only to find that even though the PM increases pulse I have no stamina at all. I expect this is due to being 18 days post maze surgery bu...

Location of PM

I had a Medtronic REVO MRI SureScan pacemaker installed 3-weeks ago. I'm concerned as to whether it was positioned too close to the left shoulder to allow me to play golf. I'm an avid golfer and don't want to quit. When I raise my left arm straight up, the PM juts out under my arm pit. When I take easy swings with a golf club, my left shoulder (& upper part of bicep) pushes hard against the side of the PM on the backswing. I am concerned that this repetitive pushing of the PM will flex & s...

Brit in Bulgaria

Hi,for those who like to get out on the old back legs..Hi from Tattoo Man, here in Bansko, Bulgaria.
We are here for ten days , in our bijou studio, with views of the Pirin Mountains, right now with big snow, almost too much , even for the Boarders.
For me a run a day from 1000meteres (lets say 3300 feet up the Pirin is good enough..snow is a prob though. I know this Forum does not condone promotion of product, but try this ..personal safety and health are the issue here.
Stay wit...

paintball?

Hi Everyone- Im feeling much better- have my anxiety under control. I even had a patient of mine in the ED with a pacemaker tell me that when he got his he was sad but now he realizes that he is still here because he has more to do in life and is thankful- this helped me.

However- I am going to play paintball in two days with my neighbors (i have never played before). I have seen people get welts from paintball and made a big patch of padding and foam to put over my pacemaker- do yo...

I have been getting some mixed messages from my doctors on the amount of physical exercise that I can engage in. I would like to know what others have been told about getting back to full exercise and how soon. I would appreciate anyones comments

Trainers for Zumba

Hello all,

Wondered if there were any Zumba fans out there as I need some advice on footwear.
I've been Zumba-ing for over a year now and been wearing Reebok Easytone trainers. They're wearing down so have been looking for replacements and was advised to look at dance sneakers? (I feel my old footwear are quite cumbersome). Then I got to thinking the dance sneakers wouldnt have the same shock absorption that my old trainers do?
I find that when I jump up and down on a hard...

Shortness of breath on stairs

I am 100% paced, but lead a totally active life with no restrictions. I regularly run on the treadmill for 30 minutes at a time with no problems.

My problem is stairs. One flight of stairs causes shortness of breath. My cardiologist isn't concerned.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks!!

Who else has big plans for the year?

Anyone doing any Tri's, runs, thru hikes, climbs, swims, big rides or just something that they would like to share that is a goal for them. We have Tony heading to the Himalayas, I have at least two big rides I am hoping to do, the Triple Bypass which is 120 miles and 10k+ feet of climbing and Ride the Rockies if I get in which will be about 500 miles over 6 or 7 days and I figure we must have others out there who have plans for this upcoming year....

Update: Working out some

Good morning Pacermaker Club friends,
I am still working on getting into shape... Round is a shape isn't it? :p Anyway I am still taking Yoga classes, learning to dance and working. I had some trouble at first with my hip causing me so much pain that I forgot about my PM! I haven't had many issues with the PM except when I try to twist my left shoulder back some. It really pulls on the muscles around the PM. I don't rotate nearly as much as my fellow yogis because of it. Seems to be w...

Kettlebells

Since my CRTD procedure and before, Kettlebells have been my workout. If you have a qualifiey instructor close and want a body blast, try it. You get arobic and anarobic all in one, and in a quarter of the time. This is very intense and you must go to good classes or you WILL hurt yourself. If done properly it is the best. You will be in the best shape of your life even with heart problems and the device. See your Doc first. I have AFIB and heart failure, and since the CRTD my quality of life ha...

Bucket List

First off no I'm not planning on kickin the bucket lol but one thing that has always been on mu bucket list is to sky dive. Now I'm sure some of you think no one in their right kind would jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I however have never been in my right mind lol. Has anyone been skydiving post pm/icd or is that a no-no listed as a heart condition that would keep you from it?

Tennis Risk

I had a pacemaker inserted on 10/28/11, and have resumed fairly heavy-duty doubles tennis play.

I was playing the net and someone hit a very hard ball that struck about an inch below the PM. I wonder whether any of you have any thoughts on whether the PM could be damaged were a hard-hit ball to hit it. Also, should I be wearing some protective padding? A female friend jokingly suggested a padded bra.

pace maker for scuba diving

Have been a commercial hard hat diver for 35 years now. Finding out that I need a PM to which I am scheduled for next wed. Have been told that with the right PM I can still scuba dive. Doing this last minute scramble to find a model I can get my doctor to supply. Any ideals?
