Portable Emergency Generators???

Hello Everyone!

I hope all of you are making progress and growing stronger.

It's been awhile since I've checked in...had my CRT-D implant on December 9th...so far so good.

Question: I bought one of those Portable Emergency Generators that will jump start your car (600amps), inflate your tires, recharge your IPOD, run you laptop with a USB port...and run AC appliances up to 400watts.

Well, I was wondering if anyone with an ICD/Pacemaker has any experie...

I JUST GOT MY PACEMAKER A WEEK AGO

With my jewelry making I wonder am I safe to use a Dremmel to drill my polished stones? Also, I use CPAP and sometimes feel the electrical vibrations through my chest. Is that o.k? How about my cordless house phone? I already know about cell phones.

Bye

This will be my final message. The Pacemaker Club doesn't need me and I will say the same for the Pacemaker Club

It seems I posted something today about the Obamacare bill that was passed last night that didn't pass muster. I didn't think it was anything derogatory. It was the address for a film clip I found on Youtube. So far as I know it did not cause any rude exchanges. Don't see how it could have since it was visible for only a few hours.

Some enterprising sou...

sound systems? (loud noise?)

Before I got my pacemaker I of course asked the obvious question about microwaves, haha. But we began talking about things, like cells phones only on the side that doesnt have the pacemaker magnets and not to put my ipod in a shirt pocket, but the jean pocket. He also told me about sound systems. But its been 7 months and I was so stressed back then I don't really remember what he said. He said not to be to close I think. Well my brother loves loud music, so he always has his music up loud and i...

Roller Coasters

Hello! I'm supposed to be going to Six Flaggs in San Antonio with my fiance soon, but I've heard mixed responses if I should go on roller coasters or not. I've heard no because some roller coasters are controlled by magnets in the motor and it can mess with my ICD's settings. I've also heard no because of the shoulder harness used on some thrill rides. I'm a pretty small girl, I don't really have any fat or much muscle over my ICD, so I read the harness could do harm. I have also heard everythin...

Invisible fences?

Reading about all the things that interfere with PMs, I haven't seen anything about invisible (electical) fences.

I have one neighbor who has his turned up to the maximum because his dogs are bad and will go right through. Anyone hear about any problems going near one or through one?

EKG-machines and pacemakers

Since I was told I have A-fib, I have looked for a device to tell me. I want to know more about the situations leading up to an A-fib incident, and to know when the incidents stop. I'm not able to pin it down on my own, without some kind of equipment. I've tried to make Medtronic make a device to give me a continous reading from the PM, but they don't seem to be interested.

However, I've found to small EKG monitors: ReadMyHeart and InstantCheck, from DailyCare. They're a poor substi...

Dental X-ray and drills

Hi All,

I have just got back from the Dentist and had to under go root canal treatment. This mean that there was lots of drilling and and x-ray. I did advise the Dentist that I had a PM and she said it was ok...

I'm still new to this only had the PM for 6 weeks, any advice would be great, as I have to go back in 1 week for phase 2 of drilling and more than likely another x-ray... I have a PM checkup tomorrow, so will ask there, but I don't seem to get definitive answers ab...

Me, again, re: ECK prob & father-in-law question

Thanks to everyone. I agree with all of your comments...and really appreciate the feedback. I keep wondering if I should make a formal complaint as I know I asked at least 5 (and actually closer to 10) tines if there was someone available who deals with pacemakers. They never did. The next day, the pacemaker guy said they have someone available 24 hours a day and could have been reached. I get so frustrated with getting contradictory answers from the professionals.

Plus, I am not a p...

EKG Interference?

I was in the hospital Monday night for a throat infection which was bleeding. My BP was high so they put me on the monitors. My HR was at 132 for two straight hours in ER. They put me on a portable ECG monitor to do a cat-scan thinking I may have bleeding in stomach from taking plavix and aspirin. My pulse dropped immediately to 70 on the portable as soon as the other machine was disconnected. They hooked it back up and both the portable and the wall machine jumped to 132. During cat-scan,...

Chainsaws, mowers and trimmers

I have a KDR901 Pacemaker implanted in 2003, and have enjoyed a trouble free experience so far. Yesterday, I used my small chainsaw and suffered moderate fatigue afterwards. I have used this chainsaw many times previously, with no ill effects, but have been advised that chainsaws, weed trimmers, lawnmowers, etc., should not be used. What information is available and has anyone experienced difficulty after or during the use of a chainsaw?

Airport Security

I have flown about 6 times since my PM implant a year ago. I have told them I have a PM, bypassed the metal detector at airport security, and gone through the pat down lane instead. It's kind of a nuisance, but I've gone on the belief that it's bad news to be subjected to that kind of electromagetic radiation.

While Christmas shopping last weekend and passing through countless store security systems, I had to wonder : is it any different passing through a store security system than a...

tasers

Ever since getting a pacemaker i have had a huge fear of tasers and it seems like in the news all i hear about is how cops are going taser crazy- using tasers on school aged children, old ladies at routine traffic stops and anyone who protests them without hesitation. Do they know this so called "safe" device can cause damage to pace maker patients- and me being 22 am proof that you never know who may have one. What are your thoughts on the increased use of tasers? Do you think they can damage p...

Job questions

Any machinists or toolmakers out there? I just had a pacemaker put in and I looked on the web for info on EMI in a machine shop environment. Best I could come up with is that I shouldn't run a chain saw. Not much help. The EDM manufacturers say they don't reccomend anyone with a pacemaker to operate an EDM machine. But what about surface grinders with electro-magnetic chucks? How close can I get? What about Mills and Lathes? Or sonic cleaning tanks. Or even die grinders? Where can I find out i...
