How strong of a magnet is needed to make the pacemaker enter magnet mode? Are we talking like ice box magnets or what?

I am turning 21 in less than a week. I had a pacemaker implanted in 2012 when I was 18. I vowed to myself that I would not let this define me as the "guy with a pacemakeer". I went to my follow up check and sent in a reading at the 3 month mark. Then I lost insurance for a while and then got too busy! I now work at oreilly auto parts and they don't know that I have a pacemaker. Lately, It seems as if my heart is racing! I live 5 hours from my pacemaker doctor and am a student so I cannot just d...

Hi everyone! I am so glad to have found this site! I am 56 and had my pacemaker unit put in 10 days ago. I go Wednesday to my first checkup to have staples removed. My pacemaker site is very sore under the bandage( I can only imagine what it looks like) My question is , does it hurt to have the staples removed?

I recently had my 6 month pacemaker check and every time the test that slows down the heart occurs, I get very dizzy and have trouble breathing almost instantly and they have to stop that test. Every other part of the check up is fine. I was wondering if anyone else had this and if you think this will be problematic when it;s time to replace the device in about 2 years. Thanks.

I seen a message or quote the other day
the person mentioned something about
fine tuning .
when you say that , did they adjust your heart rate ,
when I went down my heart was only beating
40 beats per minute, now it's set at 60.
my question is , what else can they adjust ?

I was wondering does a pacemaker response to anxiety and hyperventilation? For instance you are lying on the couch and you are watching a scary movie does your pacemaker know it has to increase the heart rate?

It has been almost 10 months since I got my 5th PM.....I had it done the day before Thanksgiving 2013. I just got my PM checked the other day. Very good news. My upper lead is working 1/3 of the time and the bottom lead is working all of the time. I still have 10 1/2 to 12 1/2 years left on the battery. My PM that has been the longest has been 8 1/2 years. I had that one fitted in January 1997 and replaced in July 2005. I have complete heart block.

I'm having my first follow up visit this week, 12 days after getting my pacemaker. I know the rep (Medtronics) will be scanning my device. When she did it initially at the hospital I was still recovering and didn't ask a lot of questions. Now that I am more with it, I'm wondering what type of detail she is going to be able to give me on how my device is working? Will it just be % paced? Or will they be able to see when it is being used more (i.e. at night?). What kind of info can they print out...

Hi everyone,
I am three weeks out from having a dual pacemaker installed. I feel great, except they have set it so my heart rate does not fall below 60. I am tired two hours after I get up. I am taking naps everyday, which I never did. My follow up with the PM manufacturer person is not for another month. Is anyone else experiencing fatigue?

Hi, I am new to the Club and have only had a Biotronik dual lead for 10 months to try and help me with my Atrial Fibrillation as I am intolerant to most Heart drugs.
I am curious to know what my pacemaker self tests are and how often are they implemented as I fell sometimes that I notice them in action . Or is my imagination ?
I am rather sensitive to any irregular heart beats.
Perhaps some one can advise me please ?

I have a Medtronics Revo SureScan Pacemaker, implanted due to complete heart block back in Feb. For the most part all is good, with a couple of issues. Mainly it is that sometimes my pacer quits pacing...then proceeds to kick back in after I stop what I am doing and rest a minute. My settings were changed a couple months ago to 60 -150, and the delay was shortened. This improved my ability to swim laps. I am not a fast swimmer, but I need to get in the pool 3 x a week to keep my joints going (59...

Dear All, I am 56 and was given a pacer a year ago for 2-1 AV heart block. Prior to pace I had no symptoms except for some mild exercise limitation (I would get out of breath when running).
Post pacer I have fatigue, constant cough, and echo shows my ejection fraction has gone down (heart less efficient). General health declined and stayed worse for a year.
I am thinking of having the pacer turned off to see if my overall
health improves. Of course I understand t...

I wish I could go back to the scared depressed person I was when I was diagnosed with chf. I went I to a major depression. If u feel depressed there is help out there. I had gone to one dr who told me well I guess your heart will hold out for maybe 2 years, then you would prob need a transplant. I will never forget that day it was a beautiful spring day. My daughter had to literally help me walk out of his office. Not due to my heart but the statements this dr made. Needless to say I nev...

I asked the dr if it could be the pacemaker that made my ef go up. He was stunned that it had gone up. My dr reads the echo never heard of a computer reading it. I was at 10 per cent and was being evaluated for a heart transplant. I go to a dr in New York at Colimbia Pres Hospital who only sees patients with possible heart transplants. I also have a regular cardio near my home. To boot, I was told at the time they put the new. Defibrillator in that the one was damaged. I have no idea. My...

This may seem like a dump questions, but I have had my PM for three years and mostly everything seems good. For the past couple weeks, however, I am low on energy and everything seems to be an effort. What are some of the symptoms that would require resetting the PM? Thanks.

On my usual 1 1/2 walk up and down a very steep hill (Ski Hill Circle)and two lesser hills (all paved streets) tonight for the first time I exceeded my PM setting of 60-120 with symptoms of being a bit out of breath, nervous, a bit light headed at times, and a higher heart rate throughout out the rest of the routine evening walk. I walk this route at least 3 times a week and usually get my heart rate up over 120 at the top, 108-111 on the next less steep rise, and in the 90's to 70's coming dow...

Bit of a long one I'm afraid! Last November I was 5 months pregnant I I began to notice a popping sensation over the top of my pace maker which made me breathless. I went to doctors and was told it was HEARTBURN :( had 24 hour ecgs which shown ectopic beats, still noting was done and was blamed on the pregnancy. had my baby end of January and the symptoms become worse so they decided to do a pace check, only to find my battery had died and pacemaker was faulty! I only use mine on demand. So the...
